STATEMENT: Why I choose not to publish photos of newborns & Children on SOCIAL MEDIA & how you can support my journey

Dear Families,
as a photographer and former Communication Manager in the corporate world, capturing the tender moments of your newborn’s first days, the innocence of childhood, and the beauty of family bonds is a privilege I hold dear. However, when it comes to sharing these precious images online, I’ve made the conscious choice to refrain from posting photos of newborns, babies, and children on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
Here’s why:
Protecting Privacy – Your child’s image is deeply personal, and I believe in honoring their right to privacy, especially during their most vulnerable years.
Respecting Your Family’s Wishes – Each family has different comfort levels regarding online sharing, and by not publishing images, I ensure that everyone’s preferences are respected without any pressure.
Guarding Against Misuse – Unfortunately, the internet is not always a safe space. I want to protect your children’s photos from being used without permission or falling into the wrong hands.
Reducing the Risk of Image Theft & Preventing Child Trafficking Risks – Once photos are shared publicly online, they can easily be copied, altered, or misused without our knowledge. By keeping your images private, we can help avoid this risk. Tragically, there are individuals who misuse children’s images in harmful ways, including child trafficking. By keeping your child’s photos off social media, we reduce the risk of exploitation.
Preserving the Sacredness of Intimate Moments – The newborn stage is fleeting and sacred. These moments are for your family to treasure, not to be consumed by a vast, unknown audience.
Fostering Connection, Not Comparison – Social media can sometimes create unhealthy comparisons between families, children, or milestones. By keeping your photos off these platforms, I help ensure your images are enjoyed in a more intimate and positive way
Limiting Exposure to Algorithms and AI – Social media platforms increasingly use personal images for algorithms and AI training without full transparency. I don’t want your child’s image used in ways you may not agree with.
Building Trust Through Personal Connections – Rather than relying on social media for visibility, I aim to grow my photography through word-of-mouth, recommendations, and meaningful client relationships.
Valuing Quality Over Quantity – Rather than quickly sharing photos for likes and comments, I focus on delivering beautifully curated images that you can enjoy in print or private galleries, far away from the noise of social media.
Honoring Childhood’s Innocence – Childhood is a precious, innocent time that deserves to be protected from the pressures and exposure of the online world.
How you can help me continue this journey:
As I choose this more private and protective path, your support is truly invaluable. If you’ve had a positive experience with my photography or feel moved by the values I hold dear, I would be incredibly grateful if you could help spread the word. Share my work with your family, friends, colleagues, or anyone you know who may be interested in preserving their family’s memories in a safe, intimate, and meaningful way.
Your trust means everything to me, and together, we can create a community that celebrates the beauty of family, while keeping those most precious moments exactly where they belong—with you.
Warmest thanks,
Angelie
