Getting married in Denmark – uncomplicated, emotional and unforgettable. Everything you need to know about elopements, weddings and dream locations on the Danish west coast.
Getting married in Denmark – Simple, emotional and unforgettable
Envision standing by the sea. The wind carries salt in the air, your hand rests in that of your loved one. Behind you, the North Sea roars, ahead of you lies a life together. No hustle and bustle, no thousands of guests – just the two of you, barefoot in the sand, completely at one with yourselves.
That’s what getting married in Denmark feels like.
More and more couples from all over the world are choosing the north as their wedding destination: uncomplicated, romantic and with that special blend of freedom and naturalness that can only be found here.
Why Denmark? – Simpler, faster, more beautiful
Denmark is considered one of the most popular countries for international weddings in Europe – and for good reason.
The Danish authorities are open, friendly and efficient, and the legal requirements are significantly simpler than in many other countries.
Whether you come from the United Kingdom, Europe or beyond:
In Denmark, you can usually get married without long waiting times and with little bureaucracy.
The most important advantages at a glance:
- No minimum length of stay (often 1 day is enough)
- No residence requirement
- Recognition of the marriage throughout Europe and internationally
- Friendly registrars who speak English and German
- Romantic backdrops from lighthouses to dune landscapes
This makes your wedding not only legally uncomplicated, but also emotionally unforgettable.
Getting married in Denmark is more than just a bureaucratic act – it is an experience that touches your soul – if you intent to make the most out of it
It is early morning on the Danish west coast. The sky is slowly turning pink, fog hangs over the dunes. You walk hand in hand to the beach, the sea glistening in the first light.
You say ‘I do’ – quietly, honestly, without an audience, but with everything that matters.
The wind carries your words away, the waves applaud softly, and for a moment, the world seems to stand still.
Later, as you walk through the dunes, you think: this is exactly how it should be.

Getting married on the Danish west coast
The Danish west coast is the perfect place for couples who love nature, wide open spaces and the sea.
From Blåvand to Hvide Sande to Fanø, the coast offers breathtaking scenery: endless beaches, lighthouses, wild dunes and that incomparable silence that you otherwise only know from films.
You can get married in the registry office of a small coastal town or plan an independent wedding ceremony right on the beach – perhaps at sunset, with seagulls circling above you.
Nothing here is artificial or exaggerated. Just you, the sea and a feeling you will never forget.
🌾 Tip: Many couples combine their wedding with a short holiday. A week in a holiday home on the west coast – say ‘I do’ in the morning, toast with a view of the North Sea in the evening.
Elopement in Denmark – Your intimate wedding for two

Elopements – intimate weddings for two or a small group – have long been more than just a trend. They are a statement.
A ‘yes’ to authenticity, tranquillity and closeness.
Denmark is perfect for this. The uncomplicated bureaucracy and breathtaking nature make it easy to focus entirely on what matters most: the two of you.

How does a wedding in Denmark work?
Many couples are surprised at how simple the process is. Here is a brief overview:
- Registration & documents You submit your documents to the Danish Agency of Family Law – usually online. You will need passports and, if applicable, proof of divorce or single status (depending on your country of origin). You will receive your marriage licence within a few days.
- Making an appointment
You can then arrange a wedding date in almost any municipality in Denmark – from Copenhagen to Esbjerg, Varde or Ribe, from Tønder to Hvide Sande. - Arrival & marriage ceremony
You usually only need to arrive one day before the wedding. The ceremony usually lasts 10–15 minutes – simple but heartfelt. Lot´s of couples enjoy an after ceremony photosession at the beach or other breathtaking outdoor backdrops. - Marriage certificate & recognition After the wedding ceremony, you will receive an international marriage certificate, which is recognised in most countries without translation.
Love and saying ‘I do’ can be that effortless.
